The Midlands International Trade Association (MITA) was recognized for its support of the South Carolina business community during the S.C. International Trade Coalition Global Business Forum in Columbia on April 24.

MITA received a U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC) Certificate of Appreciation for Achievement in Trade. The organization was recognized for its support of USDOC and other international trade service providers and the state’s business community as a whole.

In nominating the organization, USDOC stated that MITA has been a vital partner of the U.S. Commercial Service office in Columbia since it was founded in the 1970s. The association has provided a venue for presentations by visiting senior commercial officers and commercial specialists from U.S. Commercial Service overseas posts and from commerce headquarters in Washington. In addition, MITA has sponsored several trade missions for South Carolina companies to countries including Chile, Argentina, Mexico, United Kingdom and Canada.

A volunteer organization, MITA is administered through The Export Consortium
